New morning runs on the Pink and Purple Routes and four additional Black Route stops take effect Monday, Aug. 31
Just in time for the new school year, Sioux Area Metro (SAM) is announcing upcoming adjustments to its fixed-route service designed to improve access and convenience for riders across the city. The changes, which include new early-morning student runs and expanded stops on the north side of Sioux Falls, take effect Monday, Aug. 31.
To help local students arrive to class on time, SAM is adding two new morning trips on the pink and purple routes to the weekday schedule, giving families more flexibility during the morning commute. Both trips depart from [JB1] the Downtown Bus Depot at 7:30 a.m.
In addition to the new morning student runs, SAM is also adding four new stops to the Black Route, expanding public transit access for residents and commuters in neighborhoods north of the city.
“Many of our most popular bus stops serve schools, emphasizing the importance of SAM in helping students get to school on time. We’re excited to roll out these new trips to help students with their morning commute,” said Justin Jellinek, Via’s lead of Central Operations.
“We have seen growing demand for ridership on these routes, and we are pleased to see SAM/Via meet the needs of our community,” said Logan Penfield, assistant director of Planning and Development Services for the City of Sioux Falls, which oversees public transit. “By investing in making it easier for students to take transit, we’re investing in creating future transit riders.”
