Sioux Area Metro’s first
ART ON THE MOVE contest

Sioux Area Metro (SAM) and Via are excited to announce the winners of Sioux Falls’ first-ever Art Bus contest.

The four selected winning designs are:

Native Flowers of South Dakota by Kenzie Shubert

winner-1

Sioux Falls-based Kenzie Shubert is a UX/UI Designer and co-director of Untitled.10, a Sioux Falls visual arts organization. “I think it is very important for our community to be mindful of species of flowers and plants that are native to our state to preserve our ecosystems; this piece serves as a visual reminder of this sentiment,” she said.

Let’s Drive Around Town by Tom Bates

winner-2

Tom Bates is a Sioux Falls-based graphic designer. “The artwork is a visual puzzle that invites people to discover and celebrate the best of Sioux Falls. Together, these pieces [of the design] show that every part of Sioux Falls is vital. The bus becomes the literal vehicle that connects these places, carrying that shared energy throughout the community,” he said.

Yuharelly Comparen is a born-and-raised Sioux Falls artist who graduated in Media Studies and Graphic Design from the University of Sioux Falls. “This design is made to showcase the well-known passages of Sioux Falls, almost as if you were taking a stroll through Downtown. I chose this color scheme as an homage to the incredible sunsets Sioux Falls has to offer. Our sunsets are so powerful they change the color of everything around you,” she said.

The Sioux Falls Magical Mystery Tour by Scott Parsons

winner-3

Scott Parsons is a Sioux Falls artist who delights in celebrating and transforming the ordinary into works of art that transport you. “This design came from thinking about the Levitt, what music does for us, and what summer feels like in Sioux Falls,” he said. The Levitt is a live music venue in Sioux Falls.

Winners were voted on by The City of Sioux Falls, Sioux Area Metro, Via, The Sioux Falls Art Council, and the Sioux Falls Visual Art Committee. The bus wraps have already gone into production and will be rolling out over the coming months.
